Following an internal promotion, Volpower NZ Ltd is in search of a qualified professional for the role of National Technical Support in their team based in East Tamaki, Auckland.

The purpose of the role is to lead and co-ordinate the technical support available to the NZ Volvo Penta dealer network and OEM customers, which encompasses installation support, trouble-shooting, the delivery of technical training and dealing with any complaints.

Responsibilities cover the whole of New Zealand and those Pacific Islands falling within the Volpower distribution territory.  The role will entail a considerable amount of travel, often at short notice, and availability to respond 24/7.

This person reports to the Managing Director and After Market Manager.



Core duties and accountabilities include:

  • Liaison with the sales team, the dealer network, customers and Volvo Penta on all technical aspects of product installation, operation and servicing, with delivery of a timely response to all inbound enquiries
  • Maintaining an effective and proactive liaison with Volvo Penta Australia and Sweden and other designated overseas support personnel
  • Monitoring and assisting the dealers to ensure that they can deliver the full range of Volvo Penta products and services, supported with appropriate technical data and training
  • Delivering (sometimes) hands-on field support, including attendance at sea trials as required
  • Administration of technical service bulletins and related documentation between the factory and Dealer/network
  • Accountability for the efficient operation of the Warranty System and the progressing of all claims and reimbursements, supported by comprehensive case documentation, through to completion using the proprietary system
  • Organisation and delivery of all dealer training (approx. 10 courses a year), including facilitation of all training materials
  • Responsibility for the management of one direct report (for warranty claims)
  • Accountability for the Company’s workshop facility
  • Control and distribution of specialist tools and plant associated with repairing Volvo Penta equipment, as part of the Capital Equipment tracking system
  • Liaison with M.O.T. Marine authorities concerning survey requirements and compliance of Volvo Penta products in New Zealand
  • Assisting company staff at boat shows, conferences and dealer visits in attaining Volpower’s business goals
  • Managing Service Department budgets for warranty, special tools, workshop operation and technical training
  • Effective internal liaison on all commercial and technical matters, including new business opportunities
  • Formal internal management reporting.


Background and Qualifications:

  • Hands-on marine or industrial experience and technical product knowledge (may also consider Truck/industrial engine experience with Volvo product)
  • Trade Certified as an Engineer, preferably with knowledge of modern common rail diesel engines
  • Expertise in electronic / electrical competences, for instance, expertise with working with CANbus applications and modern electronic engine management systems and diagnostic tools
  • Leadership of small technical / expert teams
  • Customer service focus, coupled to technical and commercial acumen
  • Current NZ Class 1 Driver’s License
  • Passport and availability to travel nationally/internationally as required, sometimes at short notice.

Computer and Software Skills:

  • Proficiency in normal Microsoft Office desktop applications, inc. PowerPoint
  • Use of internal proprietary systems, including the ARGUS case management system
  • Ongoing technical training will be provided on a regular basis. 



Salary: Negotiable according to experience
